In his Convocation Address, the Chief Guest, Dr. Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi, opened his address by paying warm tribute to ASBM University and its Founder-President, Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak. Recalling the institution’s remarkable journey from a management institute to a full-fledged university in 2019, he called its progress “a great achievement” and lauded Prof. Pattanayak’s vision for transforming ASBM into a place that produces not merely job-seekers but job-creators. He described the university as an inspiring, democratic and transparent centre of learning that has won a distinct place in Eastern India.
Turning to the graduates, Dr. Sarangi acknowledged the sacrifices of parents and the guidance of teachers, saying the day belongs as much to them as to the students. He urged the students never to say “I can’t,” and to meet the future with perseverance, knowledge and the values they have acquired here. Calling on them to “pay back” to their alma mater in service and commitment, he reminded graduates that education carries social responsibility and that the time has come to defend and fulfil the trust placed in them.
Practical counsel formed a large part of his address. Dr. Sarangi stressed planning, organisation and disciplined use of time, noting that everyone has the same 24 hours and must rationalise them to achieve goals. He offered a simple definition of management — planning, organising, leading and controlling resources to achieve objectives — and urged students to apply these principles in daily life. He emphasised that success is not accidental but the fruit of honesty, integrity, sincerity, humility and hard work, and that people from any background can succeed if they cultivate these qualities.
Concluding on a reflective note, Dr. Sarangi reiterated the paramount importance of truth — “truth in thought, truth in speech and truth in action” — and observed that intelligence must be balanced by experience, which comes from elders, teachers and life itself. He congratulated the graduating cohort and praised ASBM University for becoming a beacon of learning and leadership that will send forth graduates ready to build a better India.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. Subhransu Sekhar Acharya, lauded ASBM University and its Founder-President, Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak, for building not just an institution of repute but a true “seat of culture and civilisation.” He observed that the real test of a university lies in “the making of men and women — not merely possessed of learning but also endowed with purpose and vision.”
Addressing the graduates, he said convocation is a celebration of journeys, achievements, and new beginnings, reminding them that they are “not just participants in the future but its architects.” Drawing inspiration from Swami Vivekananda, he urged them to become courageous doers, ethical leaders, and fearless innovators. He emphasised that “intelligence without empathy is incomplete, and innovation without integrity is dangerous,” citing the Bhagavad Gita that “excellence in action is yoga.”
Encouraging humility and gratitude to parents, teachers, and mentors, Dr. Acharya called on students to dream audaciously, act deliberately, and let righteousness be their compass. He concluded by congratulating the graduates and praising ASBM University for nurturing leaders who will not only chase success but create significance through innovation, compassion, and integrity.
In his presidential address, Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak welcomed the gathering and paid warm tribute to the Chief Guest, the Guest of Honour, members of the Board, trustees, faculty, parents and the graduating class. Reflecting on ASBM’s remarkable trajectory from a modest management institute founded in 2006 to a university of national reputation in 2019, he called the transformation “a great achievement” born of vision, perseverance and collective effort. He praised the faculty and founding team for their dedication and said he was proud that ASBM now produces not merely job-seekers but job-creators who contribute to society.
Prof. Pattanayak insisted that what defines an institution is its culture rather than its buildings: “More than the buildings we create, it is the culture we foster that matters.” He described ASBM as a living idea — “an idea that education must empower the mind, enrich the heart and ennoble the spirit” — and affirmed the university’s commitment to blending industry insight with character formation. He urged graduates to give back to their alma mater and to carry forward the institution’s values as they build their careers.
Turning to guidance for the students, he stressed adaptability and the courage to rethink: the ability to “unlearn and rethink” is as important as the ability to learn. Quoting the principle often cited by employers, he asked graduates to cultivate three qualities — integrity, intelligence and energy — warning that without integrity the other two count for little. He emphasised that integrity is tested in small daily choices, and he cautioned that innovation without integrity can become manipulation; the greatest innovations are ethical, inclusive and sustainable.
Invoking India’s spiritual and ethical traditions, Prof. Pattanayak called on the students to let truth and righteousness guide their work: truth in thought, speech and action, and excellence in action as a duty. He reminded them to honour the sacrifices of their parents and teachers, to remain humble, and to aim not only for personal success but for significance and service. He concluded by congratulating the Class of 2025, expressing confidence that ASBM’s graduates will go forth as responsible, creative and compassionate leaders who will strengthen both institution and nation.
The convocation concluded with Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak felicitating the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour. The event was attended by invited guests, graduating students and their families, members of the Board of Governors and Academic Council, Trustees of ASBM Trust, and faculty and staff of the University.
