ASBM’s National Seminar on Shaping Management Skills in Recession
The scary aftermath of gross economic slowdown is not in a position to overshadow the resilience and steadfastness of moderately venturing economies like Brazil, China, Russia & India and thus strikes no panicky hinting towards management professionals and prospective career aspirants, opined corporate stalwarts at the National Management Seminar’09 organized by ace B-School ASBM. Inaugurating this opinion conclave based on the theme ‘Business in Recession: Shaping Management Skills’ the state Revenue Minister Shri Suryanarayan Patro focused on the fiscal obligation and shared responsibility of public and corporate functionaries involving total accountability. Shri Patro harped upon the corporate entities to go for responsible cost containment and avoid aggressive capital investments having widespread repercussions on the financial stability of nations. He also inaugurated the 4th batch PG Programme in Management, International Business, Retail, Logistics & Supply Chain and Banking, Insurance & Financial Services Management and expressed hope that the sectoral focus will be a competitive advantage for ASBM in this era of massive competition among mushrooming B-Schools. Eminent parliamentarian & academician Dr. Prasanna Patasani deliberated upon the strategic linkage existing between public, private and civil society groups to foster corporate endeavour in combating the adversities of recession. Deliberating on the theme, President –HR of Taurus United Shri Naresh Jhangiani said that enhancing the skill set of human resources has become imperative for the business concerns to bail out of recessionic trauma. The head of HR strategy and shared services of ‘Gati’, Dr. Ashok Chanda opined that it is phenomenally wrong to go for cost cutting on precious human resources, those are the only hope left during recession to save the companies out of the inevitable disaster. Shri Sanjay Radhakrishnan, Vice President –HR of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance thrust upon revamping strategy for retaining customers perturbed by recession’s undercurrent. Rigorously adhering to skill building without any iota of complacency has become the most effective panacea for the management professionals struggling for their career building said Shri Prakash Panda, General Manger –HR of Pantaloon Retail India Ltd.Founder Director of ASBM and acclaimed management genius Prof. Biswajeet Pattanayak affirmed his conviction that India will figure out as the least affected country in recession because of its shock absorbing measures of a judiciously paced economy and the current growth rate will call for more enriched personnel hiring involving a large number of skilled management students. He elaborated on greater industry academia partnership for approaching to a progressive economic order. To mark the occasion a book on ‘Strategic Linkages in HRM’ by Dr. Ashok Chanda was released by the Chief Guest. The ceremony ended with celebration of Freshers’Day ‘Akanksha’ featured leading rock numbers by the noted Indo-Western Band ‘Abyss’ performed by Eugene,Wendle,Niral,Lalit & Sanjib.
