Nelms Harps on Education for a Brighter Tomorrow

Instead of just climbing corporate ladders, future managers and industry leaders should go out and create businesses and jobs that lift thousands of countrymen and women out of poverty said Dr.Charlie Nelms, the Chancellor of legendary North Carolina Central University. Delivering the Second Annual Convocation Address at ace B-School ASBM, the noted academic administrator of US who also served as the Chancellor of Indiana University-East and Michigan University-Flint said the professional management graduates coming from elite business schools should consider the model of Yunus’ Grameen Bank and be the agent of change in people’s lives. Asserting the growing significance of corporate social responsibility to overcome hunger and provide adequate healthcare Dr.Nelms insisted on future employees of large corporates to consider giving to the extent that each has more than his need. While supporting and encouraging the agreement between lead B-School ASBM and NCCU’s School of Business for exchange of visits, collaborative teaching and research he reiterated that supporting education will ensure the future of our society. Expressing his strong conviction that education is the most certain means to break free from poverty and spur economic growth Dr.Nelms expected that front ranking centres of excellence like ASBM would contribute towards building the largest pool of trained minds for spearheading the supply of the brilliant ,independent thinkers we need right now.

Presiding over the Convocation the Managing Director of Mahindra Navistar Automotives Ltd. & Chairman of ASBM’s Board of Governors Shri Rakesh Kalra said that in turbulent times it can never be business as usual, but as the captain of the ships the future managers get the opportunity to show their true strengths to make decisions in the face of the turmoil and the unknown when the sea gets rough and storms of obstacles rip through our sails. He inspired the action leaders of tomorrow to relentlessly make efforts called for to steer the organisation in the desired direction. He congratulated the Director & his team members for bagging the prestigious Deccan Herald Best B-School Award and B-School Leadership Award at Asia Brand Congress. The Founder Director Prof.Biswajeet Pattanayak in his address emphasized on the unique value proposition attached to the process of management learning focused at ASBM.Prof. Pattanayak who has been able to establish ASBM as a trusted brand among aspiring management professionals reminded the passing out batch about ASBM’s incessant thrust on nuances of practical business learning that can not be Programmed or instructed but can only be inherited through a passionate process of socialization and induction helping them to come out with flying colours amidst complexities of present business world. The Diplomas were awarded to the pass outs .The Welspun Gold Medal for the Topper of PGPM was awarded to Ipsita Dash while Chairman’s Gold Medal for the Topper of International Business went to Biswa Bharati Sahoo. KKCL Gold Medal for the Topper of Retail Management was awarded to Balaji Buddi & the Chairman’s Gold Medal for the Topper of Banking Insurance & Financial Services Management went to Bibhudutta Sahoo.The Director’s Gold Medal for the Best All Rounder was won by Subhranshu Sekhar Udgata.
