At a time when around 34% to 38% of people are apparently below poverty line, substantial value addition by the financial sector needs to be done at the grass root level, for emancipating millions from the eternal debt trap. Addressing delegates and students at the National Management Conference organized by ace B-School ASBM on the theme ‘Money Talks: The Changing Facets of Finance’, the Chairman of South Indian Bank and former MD of State Bank of Hyderabad; Shri Amitabha Guha said that micro finance institutions should revamp their roles in upgrading the income generation activities of the marginalized sections of the society. The time has come where ‘money needs to talk and act also’ he added. Inaugurating this national conference the Chief of Eastern Media and Editor of ‘Sambad’ Shri Soumya Ranjan Pattnaik said that traditional vices attached with money making has been replaced by ethical business practices and it has prompted the changing facets of finance. He said economic growth should not happen at the cost of the impoverished sections of society. Giving the key-note address noted iconic author on accounting practices, and former Professor of IIM-Calcutta, Prof. Ashish Bhattacharya  said that in this era knowledge capital is playing a comparatively bigger role than financial capital hence money now talks a different language. He highlighted the significance of ethical accounting practices as aggressive capitalism without faith in the values. Earlier in his welcome address the Founder & Group Director of ASBM, Prof. Biswajeet Pattanayak hinted upon the basic tenets of the new economic order prompted by the changing facets of finance and expected that such national conference would add tremendous values in the process of growth pertaining to the banking, insurance and financial services sector. The technical sessions on two pertinent themes ‘Banking & Financial Services: Aggressive or Progressive’ and ‘Insurance: Compulsion or Necessity’ were addressed by stalwarts from industry and academia including Shri K.C.Mohapatra, Banking Ombudsman, Orissa; D Lakshmi Narayana, General Manager, Bank of India; Shri Alok Chaturvedi, Senior Vice President, Karvy, Kolkata; Shri D.P.Pattnaik, Senior Divisional Manager of LIC of India, Shri Sarbeswar Sahoo, Divisional Manager, New India Assurance and Prof. S. Moharana from Utkal University. The technical sessions followed open question hour enriched by thoughtful participation of delegates and students. The visiting dignitaries lauded the efforts of ASBM in organizing such a national conference on a pertinent theme concerning the future of Indian and global economy. This national conference along with the delegates and students in large number was attended by Dean of ASBM, Prof. Kalyan Shankar Ray, conveners of the ‘National Management Conference’, Prof. Padmanabha Mohapatra and Professor Rajee Jabbal, members of the faculty, researchers and media persons.
