ASBM Organizes National Seminar on Business Law

 

Since ‘Corporate India’ has grown from strength to strength ever since the process of economic reform started during the eighties and the growth of corporate sector has also made significant contribution in taking the benefits of development to larger sections of the society the scale of these challenges warrant a collaborative solution in which the Government, the business sector, the civil society organizations and the common citizens need to partner and here we need a highly adaptive and benevolent legal system appropriating the pace of business growth said Hon’ble Governor of Orissa, Shri M.C.Bhandare. Inaugurating the 6th National Management Seminar organized by ace B-School ASBM on the theme ‘Legal Imperatives in Business: The Changing Paradigm’ Hon’ble Governor said that following the basic tenets of democratic socialism the governance in a developing economy comprising both public and private sectors should safeguard the human rights and social justice by protecting the vulnerable sections from the wraths of globalization. Addressing the national seminar the Hon’ble Mr. Justice I.M.Quddusi, the Acting Chief Justice of Orissa High Court harped upon speedy execution of justice concerning business law through revamping the legal disposition system of the current market economy. Since a democratic government has to adhere to ethical business norms in delivering social justice and must respond to on-going priorities in public criticism and political condemnation as advised by eminent economist and Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen; Justice Quddusi affirmed that today economic justice demands, we make a strong effort to identity the overwhelming priorities that have to confront total urgency with government-corporate and civil society partnership. He expressed hope that legal imperatives in business will no way pose obstacles to pace of economic development in such a progressive economy. Presenting the analytical exposition of the core theme; the Key-note Speaker and Vice Chancellor of National Law School of India University, Prof. R.Venkat Rao, suggested accelerated awareness on Intellectual Property Right, Alternative Dispute Redressal, Competition Law, Revamped Taxation Policy, Renewed Labour Laws, Cyber Laws and Environmental Laws and Right to Information are occupying front-ranking positions in the current hierarchical order of legal imperatives. At the outset welcome address was delivered by Chairman of this national Seminar and Group Director of ASBM, Prof. Biswajeet Pattanayak, who highlighted on ASBM’s incessant thrust to promote value based management learning by organizing opinion conclaves at national level pertaining to appropriate themes and the vote of thanks was proposed by Vice-Chairman of the seminar and Member of Supreme Court of India Bar Association Shri S. K. Kanungo.The technical sessions based on relevant sub-themes like ‘New Dimensions in Business Law-IPR & Environmental Law’and‘Taxation of Business & Not-for-Profit Organizations’ were enriched with substantial deliberations by Prof.Pradeep Sarkar,Professor of Law, Utkal University;Mr. L K Pangari,Advocate, Orissa High Court; Prof. P K Pati,Professor of Law, XLRI;Dr. Jayadev Pati,Principal, M S Law College; Mr. Manoj Fogla,Chartered Accountant; Mr. A K Sabat,Chartered Accountants. The Valedictory session of the  seminar was graced by eminent dignitaries like Prof. Faizan Mustafa,Vice Chancellor, National Law University Orissa; Mr. M. Naveen Kumar, Managing Director, Power Company Karnataka Ltd., Shri K.N. Ravindra,Company Secretary & GM, Law, NALCO. This national seminar was attended by legal luminaries, researchers, mediapersons, faculty members and students.
