ASBM University Hosts National Theatre Conclave 2025

ASBM University, through its School of Liberal Arts, in collaboration with Dhauli Review Trust, successfully hosted the Second National Theatre Conclave on 17–18 August 2025 at its campus in Bhubaneswar. The conclave served as a vibrant platform to celebrate theatre as a medium of literature, performance, and cultural expression, and reaffirmed ASBM University’s commitment to nurturing the arts within an academic ecosystem.
The conclave was chaired by Prof. Biswajeet Pattanayak, Founder and President of ASBM University, whose vision has consistently positioned the institution as a hub for interdisciplinary learning and creative exploration. In his address, Prof. Pattanayak emphasised how theatre enriches the human experience and builds bridges between art and education, aligning perfectly with the mission of the School of Liberal Arts.
The event was inaugurated by Padmashri Dr. Neelam Man Singh Chowdhry, one of India’s most celebrated theatre directors, whose reflections on theatre and literature inspired students, faculty, and participants alike. Her presence at the conclave added immense value and prestige, reinforcing ASBM University’s stature as a centre for academic and cultural dialogue.
Adding to the grandeur of the conclave were the Guests of Honour—Prof. Anuradha Kapur, noted theatre director and former Director of the National School of Drama; Shri Chittaranjan Tripathy, actor, director, and writer; Shri Samanjasa Das, distinguished author and translator; and Shri Pradosh Chandra Mohanty, eminent cultural promoter. Each of them brought unique perspectives that enriched the discussions and set the tone for an engaging two-day programme.
The conclave also witnessed the release of Scars, a collection of short stories authored and translated by Shri Samanjasa Das, further emphasising the convergence of literature and performing arts. The inaugural session began with a welcome address by Prof. Kalyan Shankar Roy, Vice Chancellor of ASBM University, who highlighted how the School of Liberal Arts is expanding intellectual horizons and cultivating creativity through such initiatives.
Over two days, the conclave featured thought-provoking sessions, dialogues, and exchanges that underscored theatre’s role in shaping cultural narratives. By bringing together eminent theatre practitioners, writers, and cultural voices, the conclave not only enriched the academic community of ASBM University but also positioned the institution as a leading destination for liberal arts education in India.
Through the National Theatre Conclave, ASBM University once again demonstrated its vision of creating an environment where art, literature, and education converge, equipping students with the imagination and empathy needed to lead in diverse spheres of life. The conclave stands as a testimony to the university’s resolve to promote liberal arts education and its larger mission of rewriting the mantras of excellence.
