Prof. Mohanty holds a B.Sc. degree (B.Sc. – Engineering) in Mechanical Engineering from the University College of Engineering, Burla (now Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology – VSSUT), along with a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) in Systems and Finance from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB – now XIM University).
He has a long and rich industry experience of almost four decades. He joined the National Alumina Company Ltd. (NALCO), a Maharatna Central Public Sector Undertaking, in 1985 as a graduate engineer and retired from there in 2023 as the Executive Director (Business Management). He is an expert in IT infrastructure and has handled IT leadership and digital transformation throughout his professional career. He led R&D efforts and provided strategic leadership during his long corporate tenure. The CCTV surveillance projects at Bhubaneswar and Puri were undertaken under his guidance and leadership, for which he received Certificates of Commendation from the CMD of Odisha Police Housing Corporation.
Prof. Mohanty has attended many MDPs at renowned institutions such as Asian Institute of Management, Manila (IT Project Management), National University of Singapore (Systems Development for Project Managers), IIM – Ahmedabad (Strategic IT Management, ERP Systems: Technology Planning and Implementation, and Computer Networks), ASCI, Hyderabad (Securities: Policies, Technologies, and Solutions), MDI, Gurgaon (Electronic Commerce), TVRLS, Ahmedabad (Certificate Programme in Competency Mapping), and Institute of Directors (Masterclass for Independent Directors).
He is a member of the Board of Studies for the MBA programme of Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Odisha.
